‘The United States vs. Billie Holiday’ said to be “the next enigma in this awards season”

Milk & Honey are proud to congratulate clients and friends, Oak Felder and Jamie Hartman, for their work on ‘The Devil and I Got Up to Dance a Slow Dance’ and ‘Break Your Fall’ in upcoming film, ‘The United States vs. Billie Holiday’.

Lee Daniels’ “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” has been said to be “the next enigma in this awards season” by Variety and “could prove to be one of the more divisive entries”.

The film took its stance for an Oscar win upon the first day of SAG voting and with the drop of its first trailer – with Andra Day in the eyes of many as the iconic blues singer.

The film follows Holiday (Day), during her career as she is targeted by the Federal Department of Narcotics with an undercover sting operation led by Jimmy Fletcher, a black Federal Agent with whom Holiday had a passionate affair.

In the best actress race with a many viable and Oscar-worthy women, the reception for “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” will probably be the most panned of the leading contenders. She could come into the same boat as Leslie Odom Jr. from “One Night in Miami,” as she’s a co-writer for one of the submitted songs. Hulu will be submitting “Tigress & Tweed” (written by Raphael Saadiq and Day), “The Devil and I Got Up to Dance a Slow Dance” (written by Jamie Hartman, Warren Oak Felder, Coleridge Tillman and Charlie Wilson) and “Break Your Fall” (written by Warren Oak Felder and Coleridge Tillman).

There are still less more than two months to go until the announcement of the Oscar nominations, with no definitive answers for who will receive each award – it’s all to play for.

“The United States vs. Billie Holiday” is scheduled to be released on Feb. 26 on Hulu.
